Link Age Southwark offers friendly volunteer support to older people in Southwark, to combat loneliness and isolation. All our services are free of charge to Southwark residents aged 60+ and residents of any age with a dementia diagnosis. We receive referrals from older people themselves, family & friends, health professionals and social services. After referral, one of our staff members will make a home visit to assess which services are required and answer any questions.
How to Refer
If you would like to refer yourself or someone else to our services, please download our referral form and return it by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 020 8299 2623 if you would like to receive a copy in the post.
A friendly chat over a cuppa can make a huge difference to an older person. We match up volunteers and service users for weekly visits and have seen some wonderful friendships blossom! We also offer befriending to people with mild-moderate dementia who are living independently.
Share interests and meet like-minded people at our friendly social groups across Southwark. From gentle exercise or bridge to reminiscence or singing, we have a group to suit everyone. Sessions last about an hour and a half and are supported by Link Age Southwark volunteers, with refreshments for all. Where possible, our volunteers provide transport. You can be sure of a warm welcome when you join a group!
Where possible, our volunteer drivers provide door-to-door transport to our 20 social groups across Southwark. We also offer transport to our two annual parties.
Light gardening & DIY
Our gardening volunteers visit up to twice a year to cut the lawn or do light weeding and general tidying. Volunteers also do a range of small, one-off practical tasks around the home, such as putting up a shelf, changing a light bulb or providing assistance with technology. Because of high demand for this service, we only provide it twice a year per older person.
Services for people living with dementia
We provide specialist support to people living with mild to moderate dementia. These services are organised by our specialist Dementia Coordinator, and are available to residents of Southwark of any age with a dementia diagnosis. Alongside our regular social groups, we run a fortnightly dementia peer support group and a fortnightly dementia reading group. We also offer our befriending service to people diagnosed with dementia – a volunteer to visit weekly for friendship and company.
All our services are volunteer-led and we are always looking for new volunteers to help us! See how you can volunteer here.
